  Jurassic League Round 3

Gala News
On Saturday 13th June, Durrington Otters travelled To Bridport, Dorset for the 3rd round of the Jurassic League.

With four teams almost level with points from the previous rounds it was going to be a very hard fought gala.

The Team managed 10 1st, 15 2nd & 10 3rd place finishes!

By event 12 Durrington were in 4th position, The Boys 12&U Medley Relay team of James Chapman, Will Turner, George Fenwick & Zac Hall were the first to bring home a win.

By event 24 Durrington had managed to pull back to 3rd place with wins from Girls 14&U 50m Fly: Eloise Toomer, Boys 14&U 50m Front Crawl: Peter Chapman, and Mixed Open Medley Relay Team: Eloise Toomer, David Shannon, Alice Sims & Roy Goodenough.
Durrington managed to hold 3rd position for the rest of the Gala with more wins from Boys 12&U 50m Fly & 50m Front Crawl: James Chapman, Boys 12&U Front Crawl Team: James Chapman, Will Turner, George Fenwick & Zac Hall, Boys 16&U Medley Relay & Front Crawl Team: David Shannon, Adam Davis, Matt Chapman & Roy Goodenough, Boys 14&U Front Crawl Relay team: Patrick Ba-Tin, James Chapman, Peter Chapman & Rory Burton

The End Results were 1st Bridport, 2nd Heron, 3rd Durrington, 4th Illminster, 5th Wincanton & 6th Blandford

Durrington look forward to the final round in July where all is still to swim for.

  Bournemouth Dolphins Open Meet.

General Items of interest. On Sunday 31st May Three Durrington Otters, James, Jenny & Eloise, braved the pool giving up the sunshine to attend the Bournemouth Dolphins Swim Club Open Meet.
With 23 swimming clubs attending from as far as Cardiff & Windsor, bringing home 12 medals between them was an excellent achievement.
James brought home the biggest bundle of medals totalling six including a trio of Gold medals for the 50m, 100m and 200m Freestyle, 2 Silver for 50m & 100m Backstroke and a Bronze in the 50m Butterfly.
Not to be outdone by, the girls fought hard bringing in another six medals between them.
Jenny brought home 2 Silver medals for the 100m & 200m Freestyle and a Bronze in the 200m Individual Medley.
Eloise took home 2 Gold medals for the 100m Breaststroke and the 50m Freestyle and Silver in the 50m Backstroke.

Gala News Durrington Otters travelled to Swindon’s Milton Rd Pool on Saturday 16th May for Round 1 of the Wiltshire Moonraker Summer League.
Swimming against Swindon, Marlborough B & Corsham B.
In the opening 10 races Durrington secured 5 1st place finishes, William Turner & Hannah Williams in the U12’s 25m Butterfly, Adam Wookey & Jenny Wiltshire for U16’s 50m freestyle and Eloise Toomer swimming up in the 100m Girls Open Backstroke.
By event 10 Swindon were in the lead by 1 point over Durrington.
On the Team went with more 1st places Girls U12 Medley Relay: Shannay & Tyra Wilson Harris, Georgia Shepherd & Hannah Williams, Sidney Fenwick Boys U12 25m Breaststroke.
At event 20 Durrington had taken the lead by 1 point.
The team kept on pushing with Eloise Toomer bringing in another two 1st place finishes for Girls U16 50m Backstroke & 50m Butterfly followed by Girls U14 Medley Relay comprising Jenny Wiltshire, Adele Reed, Freya Williams & Millie Coker.
By event 30 Durrington & Swindon were equal on points.
Jenny Wiltshire gained the next set of wins for the Girls U14 50m Backstroke & 50m Butterfly accompanied by the Girls U16 Freestyle Relay Team of Laura Fry, Catherine Davis, Jenny Wiltshire & Eloise Toomer.
Scores on event 40 saw Durrington go into the lead by 3 points.
Now with the team all wanting to win William Turner gained another win for Boys U12 25m Backstroke with Freya Williams, Jenny Wiltshire, Adele Reed & Millie Coker bringing home the Girls U14 Freestyle relay.
With 12 2nd placings and 13 3rd Durrington had given all they could give.
The final Score: Marlborough 104, Corsham 124, and joint winners Swindon & Durrington 134
 

  Jurassic League Round 2

Gala News Round 2 of the Jurassic League took Durrington Otters to Yeovilton Air Base on the weekend of April 25th.
Up against Bridport, Wincanton, Illminster, Blandford & Heron swim teams and fielding another young team with only one Open swimmer available due to the early start and several swimmers having to swim up an age group again, it was going to be a hard fought gala.
First time swims for Lorna Ward (10), Amelia Rogers (9) And Morgan Oakes (9).
Durrington put in some fantastic swims and fought hard with the lead changing many times throughout the event.
The Team managed 17 First place finishes including 10 individual wins for:
50m Breaststroke: Matt Chapman
50m Backstroke:   William Turner
50m Butterfly:        Eloise Toomer, Roy Goodenough, Alex Ba-Tin &          James Chapman. 25m Butterfly: Hannah Williams
50m Freestyle:      Jenny Wiltshire, James Chapman & Alex Ba-Tin.
Plus Relay Teams 1st Place finishes:
Boys 12&U Medley; Will Turner, George Fenwick, James Chapman & Zac Hall.
Girls 14&U Freestyle: Adele Reed, Jenny Wiltshire, Freya Williams & Laura Fry
Boys & Girls 16&U Medley: Eloise Toomer, Laura Fry, Alex Ba-Tin & Jenny Wiltshire, David Shannon, Matt Chapman, Roy Goodenough & Adam Davis
Boys & Girls 16&U Freestyle: Freya Williams, Alex Ba-Tin, Laura Fry & Eloise Toomer, David Shannon, Adam Davis, Roy Goodenough & Matt Chapman.
Mixed Open Medley: Katy Chapman, David Shannon, Eloise Toomer & Roy Goodenough.
2nd place finishes;
50m Breaststroke: Eloise Toomer
50m Butterfly:        Alex Ba-Tin   25m Butterfly: Sidney Fenwick
50m Backstroke:   Eloise Toomer, Laura Fry, David Shannon
50m Freestyle:      Adam Davis
Girls 14&U Medley Team: Jenny Wiltshire, Freya Williams, Eloise Toomer & Adele Reed
3rd place finishes:
50m Breaststroke: George Fenwick, David Shannon, Patrick Ba-Tin  25m Breaststroke: Matthew Heavens
50m Butterfly:        Roy Goodenough, Rory Burton
50m Backstroke:   Jenny Wiltshire
25m Freestyle:      Hannah Williams
Boys 10&U Medley Relay: James Falconer, Matthew Heavens, Sidney Fenwick & James Hartwell.
With lots of 4th & 5th places with every point counting Durrington had given as much as they could give and were beaten into 2nd position by only one point at the final score.

1st Bridport 2nd Durrington, joint 3rd Illminster & Heron 5th Wincanton 6th Blandford

Gala News Swimming against Ilminster, Wincanton, Bridport, Yeovilton and Blandford & fielding a very young squad, with first time swims for Emily Balls (8), Emily Johnstone (11) and James Hartwell (10) there was great excitement from the start.

The team managed 17 wins – 50m Backstroke wins were achieved by Eloise , Peter , Alice , Jenny  and Will  along with 50m Freestyle wins for Jenny and James C, 50m Butterfly wins for Alex  and James C and a 50m Breast stroke win for Matt C. With another 7 relay team wins, Boys 12&U Medley Relay & Freestyle Team Will, George , James C & Zac , Girls 16&U Medley Eloise,Laura,Alex & Jenny, Girls 14&U Freestyle Jenny, Adele, Eloise & Laura, Boys 16&U Freestyle Adam D, Peter, Roy & Adam W, Girls 14&U Medley Jenny,Catherine, Eloise & Laura the squad were feeling good.
Bringing in much needed second positions were: 50m Backstroke Peter, 50m Butterfly Peter, Roy 25m Sidney,50m Breaststroke  Matt C 25m Matthew H , 50m Freestyle Alex & Adam D,  Plus Relay wins: Mixed Open Medley, Adam W, Matt C, Alice & Katy, Girls 10&U Freestyle Georgia,Tyra, Shannay & Emily B,Girls 16&U Freestyle Alex, Catherine, Laura & Eloise & Mixed Cannon Shannay, Tyra, Eloise, Alex, Alice, Sidney, James C, Peter, Roy & Matt C.
3rd place finishes go to: 25m Freestyle Shannay, 50m Backstroke Adam W & Adam D,50m Breaststroke Eloise & George, Plus Relay wins: Girls 10&U Medley: Georgia, Emily J, Shannay & Emily B, Mixed Open Freestyle: Katy, Matt C, Alice & Roy
But it wasn’t quite enough to take an overall win with the competition from Yeovilton being especially strong.  The final points saw Durrington finish a very respectable third behind Yeovilton and Wincanton with the points close enough for the Otters to be feeling positive about Round 2.
